Description
Noxious weeds are considered by many resource managers to be the number one environmental threat to our natural resources. Noxious weeds are those non-native, invasive weeds that society has declared as our legal responsibility to manage because of their negative impacts. Basically, they are alien imports which do not have any natural enemies to keep them under control and they choke out the native plants. It's a problem that affects any public lands, waterways, wildlife habitat and the general quality of life that we know and love. Yes, we have noxious weeds in Big Sky and they are flourishing.
The top 5 on the most unwanted list are:
- Spotted Knapweed
- Oxeye Daisy
- Yellow Toadflax
- Houndstongue
- Canada Thistle
Can you identify these noxious weeds? Do you know the best way to control them? Please grab your leather gloves and a trowel or shovel and join us at the pavilion. We are not trying to pull every weed in Big Sky; this is an awareness effort. |
